Yeast supplement reduces cold symptoms
We explored the effects of EpiCor, a dried Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentate, on cold and flu symptoms among healthy individuals who had recently received a flu shot. Over 12 weeks, we conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with 116 participants who took either EpiCor or a placebo.

Those supplemented with EpiCor reported significantly fewer symptoms and a shorter duration of illness compared to those on the placebo. This suggests that EpiCor may offer a beneficial approach to reducing cold and flu-like symptoms.
We examined the effectiveness of EpiCor, a yeast-derived postbiotic, on cold and flu symptoms in children. In a randomized controlled trial involving 256 kids aged 4-12, we compared those receiving EpiCor with a placebo for 84 days during flu season.

Results showed that children taking EpiCor experienced less severe cold and flu symptoms and used fewer medications than those on the placebo. This suggests that EpiCor can enhance immune function safely, providing a helpful option for managing colds in children.
We conducted a comprehensive 12-week study to see how a daily yeast-based supplement, specifically Saccharomyces cerevisiae, affects people without recent flu vaccinations. In our randomized, double-blind trial involving 116 participants, those receiving the supplement noted improvements in cold and flu-like symptoms.

While promising, it's essential to highlight that more research is necessary to establish its effectiveness across broader groups. The initial results suggest that this nutritional supplement could offer a safe way to help those prone to these common illnesses.

N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) is a versatile agent that has positively impacted my health. I often use it to detox my liver and combat heavy metals, while its antioxidant properties enhance glutathione production. I take it to manage metabolic syndrome indicators like weight gain and hypertension. Particularly for common colds with sputum, NAC is a fantastic mucolytic and expectorant. Upon the first signs of illness, I take 2 capsules at night and usually feel better by morning. It significantly alleviates cold symptoms and boosts my resistance.

Have you caught a common cold? This drug should be remembered! We have bought it several times. It's a staple in my basket. At the first sign of a cold—when my throat is sore and I feel unwell—I take 2 pills of this drug alongside 500 mg of vitamin C. Remarkably, it works effectively, in contrast to what I previously used for colds. It’s also beneficial if someone is already ill. I recommend it to all women over 35; it operates smartly in terms of gynecology, reducing inflammatory processes.

Have a common cold? This drug is a must-have! We have bought it multiple times and it has become a regular item in my shopping cart. At the first signs of a cold, when I experience a sore throat and feel poorly, I take 2 tablets of this drug and 500 mg of vitamin C. Intriguingly, it is effective, unlike what I previously relied on for colds. It also assists if someone is already unwell. I highly recommend it, especially for women over 35; it's amazing for gynecological health.

Baker's yeast supports immune function
We aimed to explore the effects of baker's yeast β-glucan (BG) on the immune system of those engaging in intense exercise. In two experiments involving over 240 men and women, we found that BG reduced cold and flu symptom days by 37% after a marathon compared to a placebo. Additionally, BG boosted salivary IgA levels, which is crucial for immune defense, by 32% after strenuous cycling. This suggests that BG could be beneficial for those at risk of upper respiratory infections following intense physical activity.

Micronutrient treatment reduces cold symptoms
We evaluated how a specific mix of vitamins and minerals, including selenium, influences recurrent colds in a group of 192 patients over 16 weeks. This randomized, placebo-controlled study showed that those receiving the micronutrient combination experienced a greater improvement in cold symptoms compared to the placebo group.

Notably, individuals below 45 reported fewer job absences due to colds. Overall, vitamin and mineral levels increased significantly for those on the treatment, suggesting that micronutrients may enhance immune defense and reduce the severity of common colds. However, the specific role of selenium in these improvements needs more exploration.

I consistently purchase NAC, using it situationally for detoxification when necessary. I usually take it with vitamin C if I'm feeling fatigued or after a poor night's sleep. When I notice even mild cold symptoms, I start taking NAC, and typically, by the following day, the symptoms are gone. Although I appreciate the added molybdenum and selenium, I prefer taking pure NAC. Timing my intake post-meal seems to enhance its effect.

This product is excellent! I replaced ACC with it, as I regularly drink it on medical advice, and it doesn’t upset my stomach. It significantly helps with the common cold and cough, aiding in productive coughing and alleviating my runny nose. After taking NAC, blood sampling became easier. My husband, a chronic smoker, was struggling with a cough; after using NAC, he had productive coughs the first day, which then vanished. Importantly, my stomach feels good unlike with pharmaceuticals.

I took this drug to cleanse my liver and lungs and gave it to my son, who coughs due to smoking. After a week, he stopped coughing, which was remarkable. When he caught a common cold with a runny nose, he began taking this drug, and by the third day, he noticed significant improvement; the nasal pouring had completely stopped.

Cold prevention benefits

I have been taking these for almost six months, initially for detox purposes following acetaminophen use for my back pain. This season, I haven't experienced any serious colds, just slight sniffles that resolve quickly. Normally, I would develop a horrendous cough; however, that hasn’t happened this year. I’m also usually prone to sinus infections, but this time I've had far fewer issues, which makes me believe this supplement is helping.

Acclimated to using NAC during colds, I find it remarkably effective and much cheaper than alternatives. In addition to vitamin C, hot water, and other remedies, I ensure to take NAC, as it alleviates viral impact and eases my immune system burden. For two years, I haven’t been sick for more than 3-4 days.

Detoxifying during illness

It is an excellent detoxifier, crucial for liver support. I take one capsule each morning on an empty stomach. However, should I encounter a cold or acute respiratory issue, I increase to three capsules daily. This helps clear sputum, facilitates breathing, and lessens coughing—essential support during viral times, especially with added selenium and molybdenum.

I used to take NAC daily when I felt a cold coming on, but after missing a few days, I caught one, resulting in a severe headache and sore throat. After taking it, I was pleasantly surprised to find my headache eased and my throat felt much better. This experience has taught me the importance of consistency in taking NAC daily.

Yeast beta-glucan reduces cold episodes
We conducted a clinical trial to see if brewers' yeast, specifically its beta-glucan component, could reduce common cold episodes in healthy individuals.

In this study, 162 volunteers took either yeast beta-glucan or a placebo for 16 weeks. Each participant tracked their cold episodes and symptoms.

We found that those taking the yeast supplement had 25% fewer colds and reported better overall symptom management compared to the placebo group. Notably, participants experienced fewer sleep disturbances related to their colds.
